About this project
MrTolak.com helps students revise smarter by pairing clear Bloom’s levels with on-the-spot feedback. Instead of hunting for more resources, students pick their course → section → topic, choose a Bloom level, and run a short, structured activity. They attempt first; AI marks against a tiny rubric; students get next steps (Retry · New set · Readiness Check).
Who it’s for (current scope)
- OCR GCSE Computer Science (J277)
- OCR A Level Computer Science (H446)
- OCR AAQ IT (H119)
We’re not affiliated with OCR.
Why this works
- A clear learning ladder (Bloom’s). Tasks are tagged: Remember → Understand → Apply → Analyse → Evaluate → Create. Students know where they are and what’s next, with a built-in Readiness Check to move up.
- Feedback, not just content. The web is full of facts; it’s short on marking. Each activity collects a student attempt, then gives criterion-based feedback and a simple pass rule.
- Spec-true by design. Inputs (Board → Course → Section → Topic) keep tasks aligned to syllabus language and depth.
- Language support that respects the exam. Three modes:
- English (UK) — default, exam mode
- Bilingual scaffold — respond in the student’s language but keep key terms in English (plus a tiny glossary)
- Full [language] — for international self-study
- Accessible & recognisable. Black canvas; each Bloom level has a consistent colour accent: Remember (yellow) · Understand (orange) · Apply (pink) · Analyse (blue) · Evaluate (green) · Create (purple). Colour is always paired with a label/icon.
- Privacy-first. No accounts, no analytics, no cookies. Progress is saved on this device only (localStorage).
- Simple to use anywhere. One click copies the prompt and opens a chat provider. If blocked, activities work on paper.
- Teacher-time saver. Named activity buttons = reusable, quality-controlled tasks. Original items only (no past-paper reuse).
How it works (student view)
- Pick Course → Section → Topic.
- Choose a Bloom level (colour-coded petals).
- Click a named activity (e.g., “Explain-Twice”, “Scenario Solve”).
- Attempt first. Then paste the prompt into your chat tool and submit your work.
- Get feedback + score and choose a next action: Retry same · New set · Readiness Check for the next level.
Language options
- English (UK) — plain, age-appropriate wording using correct exam terms.
- Bilingual scaffold — respond in [StudentLanguage], keep key terms in English (UK) on first use; end with a 6–8 term mini glossary.
- Full [StudentLanguage] — self-study mode for learners outside UK exams.
If your exam is in English, choose English or Bilingual mode.
Safety & privacy
- Static site; HTTPS; hardened security headers (HSTS, CSP, no third-party scripts).
- No tracking; no personal data collected.
- “Not affiliated with OCR.” All practice items are original (no past-paper reuse).
Accessibility
- High-contrast text on dark background.
- Colour accents plus labels/icons (never colour-only).
- Keyboard & screen-reader-friendly layout.
- Printable PDFs mirror the core activities.
Quick start
Students
- Use the left panel to choose Course → Section → Topic.
- Pick a Bloom level, click an activity, try first, then paste & submit.
- Use the Readiness Check to see if you’re ready to level up.
Teachers
- Point classes to the correct Section/Topic.
- Recommend a Bloom level based on lesson intent (e.g., Apply for practice).
- Use the named buttons as do-now tasks, homework, or retrieval practice.
- Remind EAL learners to use Bilingual scaffold (exam vocabulary remains in English).
What makes it different
- Progression built-in — pass thresholds at every level (e.g., Understand ≥ 5/6).
- Differentiation without chaos — same topic, different Bloom levels, consistent activity buttons.
- No lock-in — works with multiple chat tools or on paper.
- Teacher-checkable — everything is scoped to J277/H446/H119 for easy quality control.
FAQ
Is it aligned with OCR?
Yes. Prompts carry Subject + Board + Course + Section + Topic and ask for OCR-appropriate language. We maintain a simple Course Map of supported sections.
Won’t students just get answers?
Activities require a student attempt; the AI marks and explains. Model answers are revealed only after feedback, and the Readiness Check guards progression.
What about EAL learners?
Default English (UK); Bilingual scaffold keeps key exam terms in English while explaining in the student’s language. Full language exists for non-exam self-study.
Is data collected?
No. Progress is saved only in the browser. Clearing site data removes it.
Do students need ChatGPT Plus?
No. Works with free ChatGPT or Microsoft Copilot; tasks can also be done on paper.
Is this secure for school networks?
Yes. Static hosting with strict security headers; no third-party scripts; no cookies.
Can we embed it on the school website?
Yes. Link directly or embed via iframe. Nothing server-side is required.
How do I report an error or suggest a change?
Use the “Report an issue” link in the footer, noting the Course → Section → Topic → Bloom level → Activity.
What about students learning from abroad?
They can use Full [language] mode for study. If they later prepare for UK exams, they switch to English or Bilingual scaffold to build exam-ready terminology.
Cost?
Hosting is free (static). No API usage on our site. Students use their own AI provider account where needed, or paper.
Roadmap (near-term)
- Finalise Course Maps for J277, H446, H119.
- Release printable Bloom packs per section.
- Add tiny teacher notes for each activity button.
- Continue accessibility sweeps and student feedback rounds.
